The Class on DVD

Allmovie.com:

by Jason Buchanan

"François is a tough but fair teacher working in one of France's toughest schools, and his honest demeanor in the classroom has made him a great success with the students. But this year things are different, because when the students begin to challenge his methods François will find his classroom ethics put to the ultimate test."

Duplicity on DVD

Jacket: "...Julia Roberts and Clive Owen star as two sexy spies-turned-corporate operatives in the midst of a clandestine love affair. When they fidn themselves on either side of an all-out corporate war, they'll put everything on the line to remain one double-cross ahead in a high-stakes game of cat-and-mouse."

This wasn't as horrible as I'd thought it'd be. It's rental-worthy.

Sunshine Cleaning on DVD

Wikipedia: "Former high school cheerleading captain Rose Lorkowski (Adams) is a thirty-something single mother who cleans houses for a living. Wanting to send her trouble-making eight-year-old son Oscar (Jason Spevack) to a private school, Rose decides to take her married lover's advice and get into the "lucrative" business of crime scene cleanup. Rose convinces her disillusioned, underachieving sister Norah (Blunt) to join her in the enterprise, which she calls "Sunshine Cleaning." The sisters begin to find meaning in their function to "help" in some way in the aftermath of a loss, just as the job stirs up memories of their own mother's death. Their priorities and goals tested, Rose and Norah face hard challenges as they strive to improve their lives."

A poignant film that reminds you about the harsh realities of relationships ... especially those with our family! Rent it!

Adventureland on DVD

Jacket: "From the director of Superbad comes Adventureland, a smart, witty comedy we can all relate to. When James Brennan has to cancel his dream summer vacation and make some money for grad school, the only job he can get is at Adventureland, a tacky amusement park where the games are rigged and the rides make you hurl. But it's where he meets Em (Kristen Stewart), and his rollercoaster ride to nowhere turns into the best summer ever."

This had a great '80s soundtrack, which may have been better than the story itself.

Gomorrah (2008)

Jacket:
"... Based on the best-selling expose that shocked the world, this award-winning drama from director Matteo Garrone weaves together five stories of the violence, vengeance, startling human cost and multi-bilion dollar business of organized crime in Naples, Italy. No one is safe. No one is spared. And for the underworld mob known as "the Camorra", there are no borders that cannot be crossed. "No matter how many Mafia movies you've seen, " says Entertainment Weekly, "no matter how wise you think you are about wiseguy culture, you've never seen anything like GOMORRAH."

Want to watch an intense mafia film? Then check this out.

Five Fingers on DVD

File:Five fingers.jpg

What price would you pay for freedom?

Jacket: "Martijn (Ryan Phillippe), an idealistic Dutch pianist, travels to Morocco to help start a food program for malnourished children. Within moments of his arrival, however, Martijn is abducted by a group of terrorists, injected with a debilitating drug, and imprisoned. Under threat of death, the young man engages in a mental chess match with Ahmat (Laurence Fishburne), trying to learn his captor's true objective and avoid a horrible fate."

This is an interesting film that works like a play. Watch out for the interesting twist of events.

I Love You, Man on DVD

Jacket: "... [Peter]Paul Rudd gets engaged to the girl of his dreams but doesn't have a single guy friend to be his Best Man until he meets the ultimate dude, Jason Segel [Sydney]. Rudd and Segel's "bromance" takes male bonding to new heights in a story that comically explores what it truly means to be a friend."

This was just okay.

Weeds: Season 4 on DVD

Jacket: "Everyone's favorite pot-selling mom, Nancy Botwin, is back in the complete fourth season of the hit series WEEDS. Last time we saw her, Nancy's business (and house) was going up in smoke. So the Botwin bunch has relocated near the border for a fresh start with some new buds. Life's looking green again in this subversive and buzz-worthy comedy."

The Reader on DVD

Jacket: "Bringing the celebrated international novel, Winslet is riveting as Hanna Schmitz - a lonely, working-class woman who experiences a brief but intense affair with a teenage boy. Years later they meet again; Hanna now a defendant in a notorious case and her ex-lover, now a law student, holding the secret to her salvation ... The Reader is a "moving, romantic and poignant story" (Roger Friedman, Fox News) about the difficult distance between truth and reconciliation."

This film has a slow start, but then gets quite engaging.
